CEDA launches new Foundation Degree in Foodservice Business Design and Management

Abstract
CEDA, the catering equipment distributors association, is offering a new degree course for newcomers to the industry or those that simply want to take their career to the next level.
The two-year foundation degree in Foodservice Business Design and Management will give staff a thorough knowledge of the hospitality industry with particular emphasis on the design and operation of foodservice systems. The qualification has been created in conjunction with FCSI UK and Thames Valley University. Peter Kitchin, chairman of CEDA commented: "Investment in training for our sector is imperative - not only for the growth of the economy but for the effective running of each and every individual business within it - with this new initiative, CEDA is encouraging companies to grow and invest in their existing staff and the industry as a whole." Sir David Michels, BHA's president added: "The hospitality economy is one of the country's key industries and with huge growth prospects in jobs. Our task now is to work with government, individual companies, other organisations and agencies to ensure that this growth can be achieved." The course will commence in April 2011 and will consist of a mixture of distance learning and short 'on campus' sessions. These will be held at Thames Valley University in Ealing, West London. Open to anyone over the age of 18, entry qualifications for young people with some experience of working for in the industry are flexible, but will require GCSE /O levels including at least a Grade C in English. Older applicants' experience in the industry will be taken into consideration. The cost of the course is £1590 per year plus any travelling and accommodation expenses. Students will be assessed through a range of methods including industrial input and work-based assessment, reports, projects, presentations and a continuous assessment portfolio.
