Celebrate St David's Day with a leek

21st Feb 2008 - 00:00
Abstract
The British Leek Growers' Association, in partnership with Cardiff City Council and Tesco, will be hosting a Leek Festival on St David's Day offering tastings, demonstrations and stalls were leek related produce and local Welsh foods will be sold.
The festival will run from 28 February to 1 March and will be located on Queen Street, Cardiff, in the heart of the City Centre. Leeks have been associated with the Welsh Saint David for a long time. In the middle Ages when Saint David was alive, the leek was seen as healthy and virtuous. Festival organiser Andy Blair, said, "In recent years the humble leek has been forgotten as consumer has experiment with trendy new vegetables. But leeks are delicious, versatile and most importantly 100% Welsh and should definitely form the heart of any St David day meals." Weblink: www.british-leeks.co.uk
