Contract caterer Compass Group cuts calories with new Responsibility Deal pledge

26th Mar 2012 - 00:00
Abstract
Compass Group UK & Ireland has signed up to the Government’s new calorie reduction Responsibility Deal pledge, highlighting the company’s ongoing commitment to putting health at the heart of its business.
To meet this new pledge, Compass has committed to reducing the calorie content of its standard recipes by up to 10%. This will mean more than 5000 recipes will be reformulated, saving thousands of calories from the meals provided to the one million customers Compass serves daily. In addition, Compass will increase the momentum of the roll-out of its new whole + sum offer; a meal solution which provides customers looking for healthier choices with a range of breakfast and lunch dishes all under 500 calories. Ian Sarson, group managing director for Compass Group UK & Ireland said: "As the UK's largest foodservice provider, I believe that we have a unique opportunity to provide our customers with the information they need to maintain a healthy, balanced diet. "Adopting this new pledge will be a significant challenge for our business given the thousands of recipes we will be reformulating but we believe it is the right thing to do in order to give our customers a healthy and informed choice. I am very confident that we will rise to this challenge and continue to lead the industry in this area."
