Cost Sector Catering Awards 2012 – the winners

Two new awards were launched, with immediate past hair of LACA (Local Authority Caterers' Association) Sandra Russell honoured as the first recipient of the Public Sector Special Award for her work helping to professionalise school caterers and champion the work they do. After the event she said: "I'm really very moved to have received this award. It was a lovely surprise." Current chair of LACA said of Russell: "I have told people that if you were to cut her open you would find LACA running right through the middle of her." And Robyn and Tim Jones were named as the first winners of the Contract Catering Special Award for their work in building up CH&Co from scratch to become one of the biggest, independent contract caterers in the UK. The couple were unable to attend the awards night, but CH&Co's chief executive of business and industry Caroline Fry and HR director Alison Gilbert collected the award on their behalf. Said Fry: "She took the opportunity 20 years ago to change the shape of contract catering from canteens into restaurants. "When you see which celebrity and Michelin chefs are happy to be associated with our industry her challenge has been well worth while."
