Deadline for Women 1st Shine Awards fast approaching

26th Apr 2012 - 00:00
Abstract
Over 110 entries have so far been received for the 2012 Women 1st Shine Awards and nominations will close on Friday 4 May 2012.
These are the only awards designed to recognise outstanding female achievement in the hospitality, passenger transport, travel and tourism industries. It is the first time that the awards have been open to women and organisations in the passenger transport industry, where women make up just 22% of the workforce. The categories for this year's Women 1st Shine Awards are: Woman of the Year, Lifetime Achievement, Outstanding Entrepreneur, Mentor of the Year (male and female nominees accepted), Rising Star, Small Business and Large Business. Winners will be announced at a gala dinner on 19 June 2012 at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower Hotel, in London's Knightsbridge, following the inaugural Women 1st Conference. The evening will also see 25 inspirational females inducted into the Women 1st Top 100 Club which recognises the industry's highest achievers and those who are the role models for the next generation of female leaders. Sharon Glancy, champion of Women 1st said: "The Women 1st Shine Awards presents an excellent opportunity for industry to celebrate our female talent and recognise the valuable contribution women make. One of the reasons why women are held back from top positions is a lack of role models. So, by recognising outstanding women, we hope others in the industry will be inspired to emulate their success." Women 1st is the thought leadership, training and mentoring programme, developed by sector skills council People 1st, to help women working in hospitality, passenger transport, travel and tourism achieve their career aspirations. Women 1st has supported over 700 women with tailored training and mentoring support since its inception in 2009. Nominations can still be made at www.people1st.co.uk/shineawards
