Financial Times & Statista names SSP as a climate leader
Abstract
SSP Group, an operator of restaurants, bars, cafes and other food and beverage outlets in travel locations across 37 countries, has been named as one of Europe’s Climate Leaders 2025 in a special report by the Financial Times in partnership with data provider Statista.

The report recognises European companies that have achieved the greatest reduction in their Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions intensity over a five-year period (2018-23).

It also takes into consideration factors including transparency on Scope 3 value chain emissions, progress in reducing absolute emissions and collaboration with sustainability assessors such as the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

By the end of 2024, SSP achieved a 25% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions intensity and a 5% reduction in absolute emissions, from 2019. For Scope 3 emissions, SSP is working in collaboration with its clients, brand partners and suppliers and using its culinary expertise to develop lower carbon recipes, including 35% of meals offered by its own brands that are plant-based or vegetarian.

Patrick Coveney, group chief executive at SSP Group, said: “I’m delighted that SSP has been named by the Financial Times as one of Europe’s Climate Leaders. This recognition is a significant milestone on our journey to net zero.

"There’s real momentum across SSP on this agenda, thanks to the collective effort and dedication of our teams and business partners across the world. Together, we are making impactful strides in reducing emissions and promoting a sustainable food travel sector.”
