Abstract
Former chief medical officer Professor Dame Sally Claire Davies DBE was recognised on the 2020 New Years Honours List.

Davies became a recipient of the Dame Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath for services to public health and research. In October Davies released an independent report in an attempt to tackle childhood obesity. The 96-page report called for action across the public sector to assist the Government to reach its target of halving childhood obesity by 2030.

The New Year Honours list 2020 recognises the achievements of a wide range of ‘extraordinary’ people across the UK.

Former Royal Automobile Club executive chef Philip Corrick became a recipient of Members of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to the hospitality industry. Also recognised with an MBE was Yolande Davina Stanley, pastry chef and tutor at Westminster Kingsway College, for her service to young people in the hospitality industry.

Celebrity chef Ainsley Denzil Dubriel Harriott received an MBE for services to broadcasting and the culinary arts.

Named as a medallist of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) were Peter Derek Walters and Kaiya Rose Swain for their services to the WorldSkills competition.

In total 1,097 people received an award with 941 candidates selected at BEM, MBE and OBE level. There are 556 women recognised on the list (representing 51% of the total) and 9.1% of the successful candidates were from a BAME background.
