Abstract
The European Safety Bureau will be targeting small to medium-sized food and catering businesses in central Birmingham and the West Midlands to attend a free seminar on Food Safety at The Hotel Ibis, Ladywell Walk, Birmingham on Tuesday, 30th June from 2.30 to 4.30 pm.
The seminar will focus on three main areas: Norovirus; the latest developments in Food Safety Legislation; and the Innovative Food Preparation Techniques of Sushi, Sashimi and Sous Vide. Former environmental health officer and principal consultant for The European Safety Bureau, Phil Dryden, who will be co-presenting the seminar, described the difficulties currently facing businesses within the food and catering industry: "Many businesses, particularly smaller businesses, can feel overwhelmed in the face of rapidly changing food safety legislation. "They often don't know where to turn to get comprehensive, professional and objective advice on how it affects their business. Not only that, but we're all used to reading 'scare stories' in the press – things like mass outbreaks of food poisoning. Small businesses can feel very vulnerable especially at a time of increasing and costly civil litigation." Other topics up for discussion will include: How the threat of Norovirus can be minimised by adopting 'Best Practice' methods, what businesses need to do to satisfy their legal obligations and protect themselves against the potential threat of statutory or civil enforcement action, and the safest food preparation techniques for Sushi, Sashimi and Sous Vide. Co-presenter and chief executive of The European Safety Bureau, Derek Gardner, added: "After the presentation, Phil and I will be conducting an informal Food Safety Q&A session. "We'll be able to offer practical solutions and technical advice based on years of experience in the industry and explain some of the other services we provide such as On-site Food Safety Audits, Food Safety Policy Development, an extensive range of Training Courses and our fantastic new web-based small business support service, SafetyNet. We are also experts in the general field of Health & Safety." Seminar places are strictly limited and must be booked in advance by calling 0116 235 4000 or emailing info@esb.eu.com. They can also be booked online at www.esb.eu.com where details of all of The Bureau's services can be found.
