Abstract
In the week where the Prime Minister triggered Article 50 and began the process that will see Britain leave the European Union, we found some food facts.

McDonald’s is one of the largest owners of real estate in the world and it earns the majority of its profits from collecting rent, not from selling food.

Oranges can be green, but when imported to the US they’re treated with gas to turn them orange.

The Japanese car company that we know today as Toyota had a name change in its early days because of its association with rice. Founder Sakichi Toyoda decided that as his surname literally means, ‘fertile rice paddies’, he would change the company’s name to help disassociate the brand with old-fashioned farming and promote the innovative company he was trying to develop.

After leaving KFC, Colonel Sanders grew to hate the company, describing the chicken as ‘the worst fried chicken I’ve ever seen’ and said the gravy was like ‘wallpaper paste’.

It has been estimated that on average we drink 70,000 cups of coffee in a lifetime – that’s about 1,000 a year or three cups a day.
