Abstract
Another "no-theme" theme this week, we hope you enjoy today's Fun Friday Food facts!
  • If you had to survive on just one food, what would be the best bet? Scientists seem to agree the answer is potatoes, which for a starchy food also have a lot of protein as well as a wide variety of vitamins
  • Last week, a worried 81-year-old resident in Germany alerted police to what he thought was an unexploded World War II bomb in his garden. Officers rushed over to the house only to find a particularly large Courgette.  Police said in a statement the next day that officers determined the object, “which really did look very much like a bomb" was actually a nearly 16-inch courgette
  • Once you see the spiny body of a sea urchin, the last thing you might want to do is get close enough to touch it, let alone eat it. Sea urchins, however, are edible. In fact, the uni, or soft tissue of the sea creature, are a delicacy, according to the Pacific Urchin Harvesters Association
  • In colonial times, pineapples were so rare and costly that they were rented to households by the day as centrepieces for entertaining
  • Have you ever wondered why you’re served cheese at the end of a meal rather than the beginning or during? Cheese is known to close the stomach, helping to prevent acid reflux. Because it’s an alkali it also helps reduce the damage to teeth caused by acids in foods eaten before
  • Honey is the only food that will never rot, it can last up to 3000 years
