Abstract
Happy Friday! With many parts of the UK experiencing snow over the last couple of days, we’ve got five red-hot food facts to warm the cockles.
  • Taking ginger daily can help reduce muscle pain caused by exercise, or at least researchers claim. In a 2010 study a team of scientists said it could cut pain by 25%. Research has found ginger can act as an anti-inflammatory too.
  • The quality of the first frozen food was so poor that it was banned from use in New York state prisons in the early 20th century because it didn’t meet the standards required of food for convicts.
  • Did you know that milkshakes got their name from being served in bars. If the customer enjoyed the milkshake, he shook hands with the bartender. If not, the bartender didn’t get a tip.
  • Eating pasta that has been cooked, cooled, and then reheated is significantly healthier than eating it freshly cooked because it turns into “resistant starch,” reducing blood glucose levels by half.
  • Singer Jason Mraz is actually an avocado supplier to Mexican restaurant chain Chipotle. The Grammy award winner moved to a property with hundreds of avocado trees. He started harvesting 30,000 pounds of the fruit each year, supplying a local Chipotle with whatever he doesn't eat himself!
