As Christmas nears (!), this week's Fun Friday Food Facts called for a suitably festive theme...
- In Slovakia, it is a Christmas tradition that the oldest man of the household takes a spoonful of loksa pudding – a potato-based pancake batter - and throws it at the ceiling. The more that sticks the better the year ahead.
- A massive 100 million turkey sandwiches will get eaten between Xmas Day and New Year's Day
- German families like to hide a pickle in the Christmas tree on Christmas Eve – the child who discovers it in the morning receives a small gift
- It’s been estimated that the price of all the milk and cookies left out for Santa around the world amounts to $189 million annually (and a whooping 150 billion calories for Santa!)
- Christmas dinner in Italy can last for more than 4 hours. Most families will have 7 or more courses including antipasti, a small portion of pasta, a roast meal, followed by 2 salads and 2 sweet puddings - then cheese fruit, brandy and chocolates
