Abstract
A fun selection of Fun Friday Food Facts to round off another successful, busy week!
  • Meat from a female turkey is considered more tender and flavourful than that of a male.
  • Vegans and vegetarians are being warned not to get too excited about Burger King’s meat-free Impossible Whopper – it’s cooked on the same grill as the regular meat burgers and so is ‘contaminated’.
  • The Dubai duty-free is the largest seller of Kit Kat worldwide - approximately one tonnes of them are sold at Dubai Airport nearly every day.
  • Entomophagy is the eating of bugs. Around two billion people regularly eat insects as part of their diet. Bugs are eaten in Africa, Asia and South America where you can eat over 1,000 species of insects including ants, wasps, beetles, crickets and cockroaches. They are eaten for their high protein, crunchiness and taste.
  • In Peru people eat guinea pigs and they are served whole with the head and eyes facing you. Gordon Ramsay has described them as 'delicious'.
  • Blue whales can eat around half a million calories in one mouthful.
