Abstract
To celebrate the start of the Rugby Union Six Nations tournament we have found one fact about each of the six countries taking part: England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France and Italy.
- England: Beef is one of the most commonly eaten meat in England, with the average person eating around 18kg of beef per year, often in dishes like roast dinners.
- Scotland: The country produces around 150,000 tonnes of salmon every year, accounting for over 70% of the UK’s salmon production.
- Wales: Food and drink exports from Wales are worth over £800 million annually, with meat and dairy products being the largest contributors.
- Ireland: It exports over 90% of its beef, making it one of the largest beef exporters in the world relative to its size. Irish beef is sold to more than 70 countries.
- France: It produces over 1.9 million tonnes of cheese each year, making it one of the largest cheese producers in the world.
- Italy: Italians eat about 23 kg of pasta per person per year, the highest pasta consumption in the world.
