- Around 18,000 tonnes of pumpkins end up wasted in the UK each year because they’re used for carving and then discarded, rather than being eaten.
- While Halloween is a more recent cultural import in Japan, one popular seasonal treat is a pumpkin squash (kabocha) pudding.
- Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups are consistently the most handed-out candy on Halloween in the USA.
- In the four weeks prior to Halloween 2024, UK supermarkets reported a total confectionery sales value of £64.5 million, up about 5% from £61.5 million in 2023.
- Over 2.5 million toffee apples are sold in the UK every year around Halloween and Bonfire Night, making them one of the country’s most popular seasonal treats.
- Trick-or-treating has roots in medieval England, where poor people would go door-to-door on Hallowmas, receiving food in exchange for prayers for the dead.
