Abstract
In the first edition of Fun Friday Food Facts for 2026 we are looking at facts about pies to celebrate National Pie Day, which takes place today (23rd January).
  • Around 75% of people in the UK eat a pie at least once a month.
  • The largest pie ever made weighed over 10,000 pounds. It was a fruit pie created in Ohio in 2010.
  • According to a recent online poll the most popular pies are steak & ale (42%), pork (41%), chicken & mushroom (36%) and vegetable (35%).
  • Pukka Pies — one of Britain’s best-known pie makers — sells around 60 million pies per year in the UK and abroad.
  • Held in Wigan the World Pie Eating Competition challenges participants to eat a meat pie in the shortest time possible.
  • At the 2025 British Pie Awards, a chilli doner kebab pie beat out 900 entries nationwide to be named the top British pie.
