Abstract
As parts of the UK prepare today (July 31st) to enjoy or endure the hottest day of 2020 so far, let’s consider a few heat-related food facts:

•    The Carolina Reaper is the hottest chilli in the world; a man died after eating one in a chilli-eating contest in New York State in 2018.
•    The hottest curry regularly available in the UK is the phall; supermarket Morrison’s has sold its Flaming Fiery Phall with an eight chilli rating
•    Pizza is traditionally cooked on stone in a wood-fired oven at between 400-500 deg C
•    Scientists say that a hot drink can cool you down on a hot day, provided the additional sweating it generates is able to evaporate
•    You can deep fry a breaded scoop of ice cream to enjoy a hot-cold dessert – it quickly creates a crispy shell around the still-cold ice cream that prevents it from melting.
