24th Sep 2007 - 00:00
Abstract
Contract caterer Harbour & Jones has successfully bid for the contract to supply catering services at the Royal Society, the UK's national academy of science.
The five-year contract worth £8 million in turnover employs 220 members of staff and sees H&J tale over from previous encumbent ISS Eaton. As well as running The Dining Room – a striking staff restaurant that is home to an almost priceless portrait of Albert Einstein - H&J will be catering for the many events held in the Carlton House Terrace building which was home to Nazi German Ambassador von Ribbentrop before World War 2. These events will include the popular annual Summer Science Exhibition, which attracts up to 700 people a day. The Society also houses conferencing and banqueting facilities for up to 300 people and holds many receptions and dinners as well as public lectures and discussion meetings The Royal Society, which was founded in 1660, is housed in acclaimed John Nash-designed buildings on Carlton House Terrace overlooking The Mall and St James's Park in London. Harbour & Jones is now in its fourth year in business and director Patrick Harbour says he has been keen from the start to grow the conference and events side of the company. He added: "We feel exceptionally fortunate to have the opportunity to work with a client such as the Royal Society. The building and facilities are stunning and we can't wait to discuss, develop and implement our ideas for the business." Visit www.harbourandjones.co.uk for more details of the company.
