Abstract
HTP Training Ltd (HTP), a leading education and training provider in Southern England, has announced that one of its apprentices, Connor Black, from the Isle of Wight, has been recognised as the Hospitality Guild’s Advanced Apprentice of the Year 2013.

The ceremony was held at the Tower of London on December 3rdwith Michel Roux Jr, Chef Patron at Le Gavroche, and judge and presenter of BBC Masterchef: the Professionals, as keynote speaker.

The 17 year old began his relationship with HTP Training when studying for his Level 2 Professional Cookery qualification at the prestigious Royal Hotel on the Isle of Wight while still at school.

After completing this along with his GCSEs the Royal Hotel took him on full-time to pursue his Advanced Apprenticeship under HTPs continued support and guidance.

Connor wrote to Celebrity Chef Tom Kerridge who invited Connor to the two Michelin star ‘The Hand & Flowers’ gastro pub in Marlow and later offered to take him on as his apprentice. Connor completed his Advanced Apprenticeship in Professional Cookery on time in September and progressed straight into employment.

Tom Kerridge said: “Connor is an incredible, driven and valuable member of my kitchen team. He has a very bright future and could go all the way to Michelin stars of his own. Of that I have no doubt.”

Connor was delighted when his name was announced and said: “It was great to be shortlisted, but to win is fantastic. Having this award makes me even more determined to progress in my career!”

As winner of the Advanced Apprentice category, Connor will have one week’s work experience at The Ritz, which will be tailored to develop his skills further.

The awards, held in partnership with People 1st, celebrate the achievements of apprentices working in hospitality and emphasises the vital role employers, providers and mentors play in apprenticeship delivery.
