London student to receive award from the International Fund for Animal Welfare

15th Oct 2010 - 00:00
Abstract
A London schoolgirl who spends a huge chunk of her spare time looking after animals at a city farm is to receive a special award next week from the International Fund for Animal Welfare at the House of Lords.
Bacon's College pupil Ellie Rogers (11), from Borough, has sacrificed her weekends for the past three and a half years and gets up early to help out at Vauxhall City Farm. Her duties there include mucking out, feeding and watering and general care for the animals. Staff at the centre nominated Rogers for her commitment and hard work. Robbie Marsland, UK Director of IFAW, said: "We are very pleased to be able to recognise Ellie's impressive commitment to volunteering and caring for animals from such a young age with our Youth Award." Ellie will receive her award at IFAW's Animal Action Awards ceremony, hosted by Baroness Gale, at the House of Lords on October 19. She said: "I was really shocked to win and am very excited about going to the House of Lords to receive my award. I have always really loved animals."
