The school is working with Food for Life to ‘transform’ the school’s food culture by connecting the children with sustainable and healthy food.
As part of the bronze award scheme Royal School Manchester serves seasonal school meals, 75% of which are freshly prepared by catering manager, June Turnock, and her team.
The school catering team has been working with local suppliers to introduce more locally sourced goods into the menus.
Hannah Hill, Seashell facilities manager, said: “We are absolutely delighted with receiving this recognition of the food culture we have at Seashell and the healthy food produced by the Catering Team.
“June and her team had to work extra hard to meet the criteria for this award, whilst also meeting the individual needs of our cohort of students which was, at times, not an easy feat. I would like to thank June, her team, staff, students and parents who, together, have contributed to this success.”
The Royal School Manchester arranged for their pupils to meet farm animals, take part in food growing activities and the schoolchildren’s parents have been involved in helping to improve the school menu.
