
Although Wareing couldn't attend the Public Sector Catering Awards ceremony to join the Compass team that collected it, he was later presented with the accolade.
Focus areas of the programme include sustainability, creating a more diverse kitchen brigade in terms of ethnicity and gender, developing mental-first-aider skills, mentoring and analysis of different leadership styles and outcomes.
Compass Group has now successfully had four cohorts started on the Forward with Marcus Wareing Programme since 2021 resulting in 63 senior chefs starting their journey of which 25% are female. Of those who have completed their apprenticeship 100% have achieved a distinction and 86% of the cohorts remain with the Compass family.
The programme has become recognised externally as a ‘best-in-class’ training programme to attract, develop, progress, and retain great talent within the business but at the same time showcases the hospitality sector as a great place to work.
Last year the Forward with Marcus Wareing programme won Best Educational Programme at Institute Of Hospitality Annual Awards June 2024. The programme continues to evolve with the introduction of Forward Front of House (FOH) programme starting in 2025.
