Abstract
Mitie has strengthened its twelve-year relationship with North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust with a new five-year contract to deliver facilities management and catering services for all of the Trust’s hospitals.

Facilities management company Mitie will provide portering and catering for Stamford and Rutland Hospital and will now start delivering cleaning services to four of Peterborough City Hospital’s buildings.

Mitie will also be launching a new on-site healthcare training academy to offer career development opportunities for employees. The contract is worth £4.2 million a year and has the option to extend for up to two further years.

Jacinto Jesus, director of healthcare at Mitie, said: “Since the pandemic started, our frontline colleagues have been working tirelessly to deliver key services to help keep patients and staff safe, so we are pleased that this will be recognised with the commitment to increase pay to at least the Real Living Wage.

“We look forward to using our expertise and technology solutions to continue delivering a service that supports the critical work of the Trust.”

Mitie rolled-out its first robot cleaner, nicknamed ‘Moptimus Prime’ in 2017, to the Hinchingbrooke Hospital to enable employees to concentrate on more complex tasks. The cleaning robot has been fitted with an ozone cleaning system to deliver chemical-free cleaning and uses less water and energy than traditional cleaning machines.

Phil Walmsley, chief operating officer at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, added: “Following a robust procurement process, we are pleased to be working with Mitie to ensure our patients and staff will benefit from good quality support services in our hospitals that make a real difference to their experience.”
