16th Sep 2009 - 00:00
Abstract
M&J Seafood's fishmonger Terry Martin of the Farnham branch has been crowned the 'Young's British Fish Craft Champion 2009'.
The championships saw over 30 skilled competitors from throughout the UK fighting it out to be crowned fish craft champion. Fishmongers, fish wholesalers and retailers had to test their fish filleting and preparation skills against one another and the clock in 14 categories. M&J's performance saw them take home 12 awards in all, including 5 firsts, 3 seconds, 3 thirds and a fourth. Mike Berthet, director of seafood at M&J Seafood, said: "This is a fantastic achievement for M&J Seafood and one that we are really proud of. We make sure our skills and food standards are the highest in the industry, and it is gratifying to see our good work paying dividends. "Congratulations goes to the whole M&J team but especially to Terry who has once again demonstrated the quality expected at M&J. We at M&J strongly believe that with the right knowledge passed on, our industry can have a sustainable future for many years to come." Organised by the National Federation of Fishmongers, the competition has been running for over 50 years. For the first time in the event's history, the ceremony was this year held in Cardiff, Wales.
