National Farmers Union calls for better food education in schools
Abstract
The National Farmers Union (NFU) has created a petition that calls for an update to the school curriculum that represents British food, farming and food security across the education system.

It is asking the Government for two key improvements, firstly to improve the overall quality of food education in schools. Secondly the NFU is asking the Government to carry out an ‘urgent review’ of GCSE Biology subject content in relation to farming and food security.

A spokesperson for the NFU said: “Our ambition is for an education policy that empowers young people to make informed decisions about the food they eat by having a curriculum that takes a holistic approach to studying its provenance, nutritional value and the thousands of people who produce and prepare it.

“To ensure that food is of national importance, we need to make sure that our children understand more about their food from an early age and that this continues throughout their education.”
