National Farmers Union to host sustainability webinar
Abstract
The National Farmers Union (NFU) will host a webinar on Thursday 25th January 2024 to explore the opportunities for championing British produce as a driver for increasing sustainability and helping caterers towards net zero.

The NFU believes that as a collection we need to champion British food. The webinar will discuss how we can work together to place it at the heart of menus. Also, other areas for discussion include:

  • Innovative menus utilising meat, dairy and plant based proteins
  • Underpinning meals with British vegetables
  • Developing seasonal menus to optimise on increased volumes
  • Reduce ultra processed foods offered
  • Working more directly with suppliers to build longer term supply agreements
  • Championing the value of British food and educating children on what they are eating

The speakers include NFU deputy president Tom Bradshaw, science director at the British Nutrition Foundation (BNF) Sara Stanner as well as a farmer supplier and public procurement buyer that are yet to be confirmed.

People who should attend include: TUCO members, catering colleges, local authority leaders, procurement advisors, LACA members, Public Sector Catering members and NACC members.

A spokesperson for the NFU said: “The webinar will provide a balanced assessment of the value of British meat and dairy and the part it can play providing a balanced diet particularly for the under 25’s.

“With an increasing spotlight on diet and food sourcing this will be a timely webinar which will integrate key meat and dairy messaging which will align to climate friendly food messaging rolled out through COP28.

“Join to explore ways we can work together and hear how British farmers are working towards their net zero ambition to provide sustainably produced ingredients.”

Joining details to be sent out in the new year.
