Abstract
The annual awareness event that focuses on the need for nutrition and hydration in hospitals, care homes and domiciliary care settings is getting ready to kick off a number of activities from March 16-22.

Nutrition & Hydration Week (NHW) is marking its ninth year, with planned themes for each day.

These include mealtime occasions such as breakfast and afternoon tea, as well as food-based ones like ‘fruit or fish’ and smoothies.

Derek Johnson, one of the organising team, said: “The week provides a platform for everyone involved in providing nutrition and hydration care across health and social care to demonstrate and promote their good practices.

“And it reaches beyond health and social care sectors. In 2019 the National Fire Brigade Union, rail and water businesses and industry companies took part, which is amazing and only shows how important nutrition and hydration is to us all.

“Last year out Twitter @NHWeek reached over 10m accounts, our Facebook followers grew by over 20% in the four weeks leading up to and over the week.”

This year, NHW will again be supporting health colleagues at the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT), which marks Swallow Awareness Day on Wednesday, March 18th.
