Abstract
A petition has been set up to call on the Government to give more financial support to food and drink wholesalers who are ‘crucial’ to supplying hospitals, care homes and schools.

The petition states: “Given their importance for the public sector, and the entire hospitality industry, wholesalers will be intrinsic to Britain’s economic restart.

“Government has chosen to exclude them from much support. This must change. Bespoke financial support packages must be offered by Government now.”

Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic wholesalers supplied 330,000 food service businesses and 72,000 grocery stores.

Wholesaler Bidfood announced via Twitter: “We were disappointed to hear the news yesterday that reopening for hospitality is still so far away. There will need to be more support for both operators and wholesalers. Support the wholesale industry by signing this petition.”

The petition currently has over 6,500 signatures and if you are interested in signing it, visit here.
