Abstract
National Meals on Wheels Week 2015 (Nov 9-13), the annual promotion to highlight and celebrate home meals delivery to the elderly and vulnerable, has been boosted by a show of support from other sectors of the industry.

Neel Radia, chair of the National Association of Care Catering, which organises the meals on wheels event, has welcomed the involvement this year of the Lead Association for Catering in Education (LACA), the Hospital Caterers’ Association (HCA) and The University Caterers’ Organisation (TUCO).

Each will be taking part in a meals on wheels run in different parts of the country to help local service providers, see for themselves the importance of the work and to raise the profile of meals on wheels.

Chair of the HCA Philip Shelley has already been out and about, having joined a meals delivery run in Bristol yesterday (August 17th). Next Monday (Aug 24th) Peter McGrath, the new chair of LACA, will be participating in Harrogate.

And Julie Barker, chair of TUCO, plans to join meals on wheels providers in East Sussex on September 7th.

Radia said: “All three will be experiencing and delivering hot meals to older people in these areas to look at different meals on wheels provisions and meet service users first hand.

“This is a vital service that plays an important role in keeping the vulnerable and elderly in our communities nourished, socially independent and, most importantly, in their own homes for longer.”
