Abstract
Quorn’s ‘SmugNuggs’ pop-up takeaway store opened in London from 23-25 September to serve lower carbon alternatives to customers.

The menu included a nugget burger, a nugget sharing bucket and Quorn’s dinosaur-shaped Roarsomes nuggets. Almost half (49%) of British 18-24-year-olds are now following a flexitarian or meat-free diet.

Quorn’s nuggets contain a unique mycoprotein; a super-protein that is high in fibre, low in saturated fat and more sustainable to produce compared to meat protein.

Gill Riley, marketing director at Quorn, said: “We’re on a mission at Quorn to make it easier for shoppers to transition into meat-free, without having to compromise on their favourite meals.

“We know our nuggets are already a shopper favourite with over 22 million servings sold in the past 12 months alone. Not only are Quorn nuggets super tasty, but they are better for you and the planet, producing at least 29% fewer carbon emissions than chicken nuggets ensuring all our guests will leave SmugNuggs with that smug feeling.”

The nugget-only takeaway menu was available for free with the option to donate to Quorn’s charity partner FoodCycle, who work to feed those at risk of food poverty and social isolation, with food which would otherwise go to waste.
