Abstract
As part of the refurbishment in and around Centre Point, a 33-storey skyscraper in central London, contract caterer Rhubarb will be opening up a 290-cover restaurant at the base of the tower block.

Rhubarb, whose London catering portfolio includes operations at Sky Garden and the Royal Albert Hall, plans for the 16,000 sq ft. VIVI restaurant to become the flagship restaurant on the site.

VIVI will occupy the main floor of the tower’s bridge link between Fitzrovia and Covent Garden

After standing unoccupied for almost 20 years, and gaining the nickname of ‘London’s Empty Skyscraper’, Centre Point has been undergoing a refurbishment from developer Almacantar over the last two years that will see it fit with 82 apartments, along with restaurants and shops.

The menu at VIVI will take on a 1960’s, British theme and will include modernised dishes such as chicken à la king - sautéed chicken, mushrooms, cream and white wine, accompanied with warm biscuits; cauliflower cheese croquettes with slow roasted tomatoes and Lea & Perrins; and banana splits to share.

The interior will include digital art, geometric patterns - including the original tiling down the wings of the grade II listed space, a central marble bar and signature lighting mimicking the original 60’s toy Play Plax.

PB Jacobse, managing director at rhubarb, said: “We are delighted to be developing another distinctive new food and drink concept in what is one of the London’s most iconic buildings. We have every confidence that VIVI will reflect the creativity, style and precision synonymous with the rhubarb brand.”

The restaurant is due to open in April 2018.

Rhubarb manage over 1,000 events a year across London and the Home Counties including at the Saatchi Gallery and London City Airport, and at sporting events such as Royal Ascot.
