The Spring Seminar will kick-off with a welcome message from Anita Brown, chair of the Events Group followed by an update on The School Food People strategy and focus for 2026 by national chair Brad Pearce.
Dr Hannah Ensaff from the University of Leeds will deliver a session exploring children’s real-world food choice and dietary behaviour. Greta Defeyter and Adam Curtis will then provide an update on whether there is a successful alternative school meals funding model to consider.
Prior to the coffee break and brunch, The School Food People will announce details about their new Junior Chef Competition, which will be launched later in the year to schools.
David Foad, group editor for School Caterer, will interview 2025 Grab ‘N’ Go winner Andre Alto about his experiences of the competition, the excitement of winning and looking forward to the 2026 competition.
Competitors have been tasked to prepare cook and present four portions of a Grab ‘N’ Go savoury snack with a total cost per head of 85p. The challenge, which is sponsored by SchoolGrid, has been launched by to find the best grab and go recipe for the school meals sector. Registrations of interest are open until Friday 27th February 2026.
At the Spring Seminar there will also be a political update from Lee Petar of Menara Advisors. Andrew Archer from Dewberry Redpoint will deliver The School Food People Show & Forum Update for attendees.
To finish the Spring Seminar there will be three key case studies:
- What makes a successful regional event: Kath Breckon from the Yorkshire & Humberside region will outline the key factors behind the region’s well-attended and popular events. She will share practical advice, insights, and ideas that you can take back and apply to your own regional events.
- Nourish Allergen Policy and Strategy: Julie Watson from Nourish shares how the organisation develops and implements effective allergen policies and strategies to create safe, inclusive food environments.
- Secondary School – Telford Langley Catering team: Learn how the Telford Langley catering team combines innovation, teamwork, and community spirit to maintain exceptional service despite major challenges.
