Abstract
Beef was voted as the UK’s most popular kind of carvery according to new national research carried out by Farmhouse Inns.

When Brits were asked what the ‘best’ kind of carvery meat is, 44% opted for beef followed by chicken and turkey respectively. There was a clear divide when it came to gender with men on average preferring beef and women selecting chicken.

Britain overwhelmingly voted gravy as the best sauce, with 72% of the vote. Mint sauce (29%) was in second place followed by cranberry sauce (24%) in third place. Over one in five 18-24-year-olds have mayonnaise with their carvery compared to just 5% of over 55-year-olds.

Roast potatoes were voted the ‘single most important element’ to a carvery, winning over half of the vote (56%) with Yorkshire puddings (15%) finishing second and stuffing in third with just 5% of the vote. Scots were revealed as unlikely sprout lovers, with Aberdeen crowned the UK’s ‘most sprout loving city’.

Emma Smith, senior marketing manager at Farmhouse Inns, said: “Everyone has a different opinion on what makes the ‘perfect’ carvery, so at Farmhouse Inns we make sure to cater to everybody’s needs – offering a range of 14-hour slow-roasted meats and two outstanding vegetarian options too, with all the trimmings for the best in class carvery.”
