Abstract
Researchers took a deep dive into the nation’s favourite film night snacks with 29% of Brits claiming sweet popcorn is their preferred option.

Just 17% voted for salted popcorn while almost a quarter of people (24%) prefer a mix of sweet and salted popcorn. However the classic film snack has been dethroned as the favourite, with a big bar of chocolate the top choice for 31% of Brits.

Tortilla chips with salsa (21 percent), ready salted crisps (20 percent), a tub of cookie dough ice cream (18 percent) and dry roasted peanuts (18 percent) made the top ten.

The research was carried out on 2,000 film lovers by on demand food delivery service Zapp who also revealed a can of cola is the most popular drink (34%) followed by white wine (16%) and a cuppa (16%).

Steve O’Hear, vice president of strategy at Zapp, commented: “Sweet versus salty is a debate that has rumbled on for years and today we have solved it thanks to the Great British public.

“It’s interesting to see just how many opt for spontaneous film nights and the important role that snacks play in that experience. Zapp is here to help deliver those all-important snacks in less than 20 minutes, from movie nights to last-minute get-togethers.”

Households across the UK enjoy an average of four film nights a month but it takes at least 24 minutes for the average family to decide what to watch.
