According to the Lamb Weston poll of 2,000 adults, nearly nine in ten people (87%) say they enjoy nostalgic food, with the 1980s crowned Britain’s favourite food decade (28%).
Nostalgia tops the list of eating motivations, with 39% saying rediscovering old-school dishes is their favourite food experience, ahead of trying new cuisines (24%) or chasing food trends (21%).
The top ten nostalgic treats making a comeback are Trifle, bread & butter pudding, vienetta, jam roly-poly, angel delight, banana split, fries & milkshakes, spotted dick, ice cream floats and cornflake tart.
Alecia Brown, marketing manager at Lamb Weston, said: “Fries are one of the nation’s favourite foods, and it’s clear that Brits like their fries with a twist of fun. Our research shows how many enjoy the sweet and salty combination of dipping fries into a shake."
