UIFSM under consideration ahead of November spending review - reports suggest
Abstract
Sky News is reporting that the Government is considering scrapping Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM) despite committing to the policy in the Conservative’s 2015 manifesto.

The scheme is thought to be under consideration as part of the November spending review. This report follows on from other recent media coverage that also suggests the future of UIFSM could be scrapped.

However, research produced by the School Food Plan recently found that 95% of parents recognise the benefits of the scheme.

Also, the implementation of UIFSM has seen a take up rate of 85.5%, which equates to 1.6 million infant children eating a free school meal.

A petition has also been set up urging the Government to continue its support of the scheme, which currently has over 1,500 signatures.
