Abstract
A team from coffee company United Coffee UK & Ireland is taking part in a 460km from London to Paris cycle to raise money for The Royal British Legion.

A total of 12 fundraisers from the business are taking part with the aim of raising over £10,000 for the charity on its annual ‘Pedal to Paris’ bike ride, which lends support to the armed forces.

The ‘Legion of Lyons’ team, named after United Coffee’s Lyons brand, which features an on-pack donation to the charity, are among 300 cyclists taking part that set off from London on 30 August. After whizzing through the countryside of Kent and Northern France the team will reach the finish line at the Arc De Triomphe on Sunday 2 September.

Elaine Higginson, managing director, United Coffee UK & Ireland and team leader of the Legion of Lyons said before the event: “We’re nervous and excited about what this epic challenge has in store for us. It’ll be tough but we’re focussed on the end-goal of raising valuable funds to add to our on-going support for the cause through our Lyons’ coffee brand.

"This is the second time we’ve entered a team and we’re hoping to blow our previous fundraising total out of the water. We hope that our customers, contacts and families will get behind us and show their support through donations to this fantastic cause.”

Russell Thompson, director of National Events and Fundraising at the Legion added: “We are very grateful to the Legion of Lyons for once again taking on the Pedal to Paris challenge. It really is an incredible experience and we wish the team all the best for the ride.

“We spend more than £89 million each year on vital welfare work and the team’s fundraising efforts will help us considerably in continuing to provide the social, emotional and financial care to the Armed Forces family.”
