Abstract
Wilson Vale’s catering team at Prestfelde School, an independent day/boarding preparatory school in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, recently won the inaugural Wilson Vale Achievement Award 2012.

The team of six, led by chef manager, Spiro Milatos, was singled out from 70 Wilson Vale catering operations nationwide to receive the award.

Judged under several categories, including food, innovation, marketing, financial performance, customer care and training, the winning team will receive a trophy and a £250 bonus each in their December salaries.

Spiro and his team cater for 265 pupils, ranging in age from 3 to 13, as well as teaching and support staff, and covering everything from lunches, breakfasts and suppers to afternoon teas, sports teas and a variety of hospitality catering at special events.

Commenting on the winning team, Carolyne Vale, co-founder and managing director of Ashby-based Wilson Vale, said: “Spiro is a shining example of how a chef working within the cost sector can transform a catering service and win the hearts of his young customers, his client and his team through great people skills, natural leadership and innovation. He has mentored, inspired and developed his team who richly deserve this award.”

Spiro added: “It is great that my team’s enthusiasm and commitment has been recognised in this way. I couldn’t ask for a better end to 2012!”

The Wilson Vale catering team at Ageas in Stoke on Trent was also recognised for its outstanding performance.
