The initiative will be launched during London Climate Action Week before expanding to major international events including Climate Week NYC and COP31. Under the banner ‘Everything to Gain – Nothing to Waste’, the campaign seeks to accelerate global action to reduce food waste across food systems and supply chains.
WRAP chief executive Catherine David said: “Food waste generates between 8% and 10% of global greenhouse gas emissions every year. At the same time, businesses can reduce costs and strengthen operational resilience, while families can make their money go further by wasting less food.”
The organisation is calling for greater collaboration across governments, industry and communities to tackle food waste from farm to fork in low, middle and high-income countries.
According to WRAP, action on food waste offers Governments a pathway to achieve climate goals while supporting economic growth. Businesses can benefit from stronger profit margins, improved efficiency and greater resilience, while households can reduce pressure on budgets and maximise the value of the food they purchase.
WRAP hopes the initiative will drive a global shift in attitudes and action, helping to create a more sustainable and resilient food system worldwide.
