Abstract
Care catering company Signature Dining, part of The Genuine Dining Co, is using its buying operation to help the key workers it employs access the essential food items they need and reduce the number of shopping trips they have to make.

More than 130 catering staff, plus 900 other staff including carers, cleaners administration staff and managers are now able to buy a range of fruit, vegetables, dairy items and dry goods at cost price directly from their employer.

Founder and director Paul Robottom said: “We recognise that our catering teams in care homes are at the very front line of helping support the care provided to those most vulnerable in society.

“We are also aware of the incredible effort that the care teams are making to try and prevent the spread of the coronavirus too.

“So we’ve come up with a simple plan that will help these key workers get access to essential ingredients, and minimising the frequency that they and their families need to go shopping.

“It will also save them a considerable amount of time not having to stand around in long queues.

“We are now buying additional supplies into our kitchen and selling key essentials as a pantry service. Our clients think this is a simple but brilliant idea and have embraced the service wholeheartedly.”
