Since 2020, sustainability has been embedded deeply into Essential Cuisine’s business model, driving changes that reduce environmental impact while supporting chefs and foodservice professionals across the UK and beyond.
Due to the dark pigments used in its production, many recycling facilities struggle to identify black plastic with optical sorting systems. This material often ends up in landfill, undermining efforts to create a more circular economy.
A spokesperson for Essential Cuisine said: “The removal of black plastic is a significant milestone for Essential Cuisine. Rather than sticking with industry norms, we redesigned our packaging formats so that every product can be more easily recycled by our customers and their waste partners.
“This move not only diverts tonnes of problematic plastics from landfill, it also supports wider recycling efforts and encourages other brands to re-evaluate and improve their packaging choices. We believe chefs shouldn’t have to choose between performance and environmental responsibility, and our actions demonstrate that good cookery and good environmental stewardship can go hand-in-hand.”
