Abstract
In the week where the sun went missing, we found some ice cream related food facts to encourage it back.

The world’s first commercially available non-dairy ice cream was Chill-Zert, launched in the US in 1951. However, the first recipe for dairy-free ice cream dates from 1899 and used almond milk.

Rupert Grint AKA Ron Weasley’s first ambition was to be an ice cream man and he bought an ice cream truck with the money he earned from Harry Potter movies.

Ice cream with a golden touch. When developing new flavours ice cream tasters use solid gold spoons to ensure they get the exact taste. Ordinary spoons can often leave a slight after taste, affecting our taste buds and therefore the flavours we enjoy.

Ben Cohen, the co-founder of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, can’t smell and has near-loss of taste. This is the reason why their ice cream is characteristically chunky. In order to compensate for his lack of taste, he would add big pieces of fruit to the ice cream to satisfy his need for texture in food.

About 9% of all milk produced in the US is used to make ice cream.
