It’s Christmas Eve Eve and you’re about to get lost amongst all the wrapping paper and festive bows so take a breath and enjoy one last Fun Friday Food Facts as we countdown our favourites from 2015.

10. You can cover the Great Wall of China eight times with the amount of Nutella sold each year.

9. The expiry date on a bottle of water is for the bottle not the water.

8. Eating an apple is a more reliable method of staying awake than consuming a cup of coffee. The natural sugar in an apple is more potent than the caffeine in coffee.

7. Believe it or not peanuts are actually used to create dynamite. They are ground down to make an oil called glycerol. Which is one of the main ingredients in nitroglycerin and nitroglycerin is the main part of dynamite.

6. Queen Victoria would eat her food so fast that she could eat a seven course dinner in 30 mins. Her dinner guests were always told to eat a dinner before arriving because they would not be able to keep up with QV’s pace; as when she had finished each course, the plates would have to be taken away whether you had finished yours or not.

5. Vending Machines kill four times the number of people than sharks do every year. Between 1978 and 1995, 37 people were killed shaking vending machines trying to get free food.

4. NASA has built a 3D printer that makes pizzas, which they are hoping to take on long missions to Mars. Using a digital recipe, the printers will combine powders to produce food that has the structure and texture of real food, including the smell!

3. People who are allergic to Brazil nuts have a unique problem: it’s the only allergic reaction known to be sexually transmissible. In other words, the semen of a man who has eaten brazils can trigger an allergic response if a sexual partner of his has an allergy.

2. Fast food restaurants like McDonalds, Wimpy and Burger King use yellow, red, and orange as part of their branding because those are the colours that stimulate hunger.

1. All crisp packets have a Saturday sell-by date.
