Harrison Catering names winner of 'Design a school Lunch' competition

6th Jul 2010 - 00:00
Abstract
Each year the competition challenges pupils from across Lambeth to create tasty new lunch recipes that are 'healthy and nutritiously balanced' before the top three ideas are featured in a 'Winners Day Lunch' in every school across the borough.
The imaginative ideas that got turned into school meals this year included a grilled salmon steak with stir -fried red onions, leeks, tomatoes, broccoli and quinoa dish, lamb and carrot tagine with green beans and cous cous and a saag paneer served with tropical fruit and vegetable salad and Ethiopian bread. This year's winner, Isaiah from Kingswood Primary School, picked up a variety of prizes for her efforts including a smoothie maker and fresh fruit basket, a children's recipe book and a certificate of achievement. And to top it all off, the successful pupil also won a 'fun food day' for the entire school to enjoy, that saw Kingswood pupils enjoy 'a tasty breakfast, a delicious outdoor lunchtime BBQ and a scrumptious afternoon tea'. And to hone their cookery skills further, the children also got to take part in food workshops with lessons on making salads and fruit salads and creating exotic fruit smoothies. Gareth Harrison, Harrison Catering's director of group business, said: "We have thoroughly enjoyed creating a partnership with Lambeth schools. We are committed to providing quality, fresh food and passing this message on to younger generations."
