Abstract
The Mad O'Rouke Pie Factory's first ever pie recipe competition is now open for entries.
People who live in Black Country are being asked to submit their pie recipes for the Pie Factor contest before the 7 September closing date. The challenge is asking people to think creatively about the ingredients they use in a bid to reduce the amount of food that gets unnecessarily thrown away. Four of the best recipes will be chosen by a panel of judges including Mad O'Rourke's Desperate Dawn, and a representative from the Black Country councils. The four pies will then be available from the Mad O'Rourke's chain from September 14 to 28 and pie fans can vote for their favourite dish. The winner will be rewarded with a place on a cookery course for two with top London chef Theo Randall as well as £200 spending money towards travel and accommodation. A massive 1.6 million untouched bananas, 1.3 million unopened yoghurts and 20 million slices of bread gets thrown away every day in the UK.
