Abstract
The eagerly-anticipated opening of Shake Shack in London will bring a modern day American “roadside” burger stand to London’s Covent Garden complete with flat-top dogs and frozen custard.

Opening on the 5th July, Shake Shack is the first UK restaurant for US based Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group (USHG).

Speaking about the new site, situated in the historic Market Building in Covent Garden Piazza, Meyer said: “We hope Shake Shack becomes an essential and cherished part of the Covent Garden neighbourhood. For years we’ve been looking for a reason to spend more time in London, and it feels great to have found a golden ticket.”

The London Shack features design elements that reference the building’s history. Different flooring throughout the restaurant will be made from reclaimed Victorian pine and flagstones. Interior tabletops will be sourced from reclaimed bowling alley lanes, exterior tables and chairs will use reclaimed European oak slats, and wooden chairs and booths will be certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.

The menu will feature all the Shake Shack favourites including the signature ShackBurger, SmokeShack, ‘Shroom Burger and Shack-cago Dog. The majority of ingredients and menu items are UK-sourced.

Shake Shack has created a selection of frozen custard concretes just for Covent Garden. The concretes are made with locally sourced baked goods and chocolate mix-ins from London partners St. JOHN Bakery and paul.a.young.

Diners with dogs are catered for via the ‘Woof’ section of the menu including Pooch-ini (a sweet treat made with vanilla frozen custard, peanut butter sauce and Red Velvet dog biscuits) that are specially made for Shake Shack Covent Garden by New York’s Bocce's Bakery.

Shake Shack is also partnering with nearby Covent Garden Dragon Hall Trust. The local community centre serving disadvantaged youth, families and the elderly will receive 5% of the sales from the Big BlENd concrete and Shake Shack staff will volunteer with the organisation.
