Abstract
Chair of the Public Sector Catering Alliance, Matthew White says that when he started working as a chef in a university setting he fell in love with the variety of work, the diversity of the workforce and the people he worked with.
Following a stab at running his own catering business, and then taking up a role with the pubs, restaurants and hotels chain Whitbread, he looked for a change and agreed to do some maternity cover in the kitchens at the University of Reading.
Some 34 years later he has just as stepped down as its Director of Student Experience & Education.
Matt talks about his career, the people who’ve mentored him, and the massive opportunities he has been given while working in public sector catering.
