Abstract
Brad Pearce, who is chair of LACA, the national organisation of school meal providers, says there is a 'real lack of support for school food from Government' at a time when the costs of serving a meal far outweigh the funding provided for it.

He points out that in Wales the funding provided for school meals is 20% higher than England, while in Scotland the figure is 37%.

He asks: "Why should the school children in England be so disadvantaged?"

In his role as head of LACA Brad recently convened a round table meeting that included the major contractors as well as representation from groups such as the Soil Association's Food for Life, the Food Foundation and the Jamie Oliver Foundation and key suppliers.

From this initial meeting he has formed a working group to develop a 'core message' that all parties involved in school meals can sign up to. This way he hopes there will be a clearer message for Government on the issue.
